Job Summary
A premier, high-volume Level I Trauma and Comprehensive Stroke Center—is seeking an elite Neuro ICU RN for an immediate-start overnight assignment. Operating within a highly specialized 18-bed Neurosciences ICU, the incoming traveler will manage critical neurosurgical and neurovascular crises. This role demands complete clinical autonomy over advanced targeted temperature management, invasive external ventricular drains, acute stroke tissue plasminogen activator (tPA/TNK) protocols, and complex post-craniotomy nursing care maps.
Key Responsibilities
- Advanced Neurological Case Management: Deliver comprehensive critical care to patients presenting with large-vessel occlusive strokes, subarachnoid hemorrhages, intracranial tumors, and traumatic brain injuries (TBIs).
- Ventriculostomy (EVD) Management: Independently monitor, zero, level, and drain External Ventricular Drains (Ventriculostomies). Accurately trace hourly intracranial pressure ($ICP$) waveforms and cerebral perfusion pressures ($CPP$).
- Thrombolytic Care (tPA/Tenecteplase): Safely initiate, monitor, and document post-thrombolytic therapy for acute ischemic stroke flows, enforcing hyper-vigilance regarding blood pressure limits to prevent hemorrhagic conversion.
- Intensive Vasoactive Drip Titration: Titrate a wide range of physician-ordered continuous life-support infusions (e.g., Nicardipine, Labetalol, Norepinephrine, Propofol, Dexmedetomidine) to maintain precise cerebral hemodynamics.
- Airway Security & Vent Troubleshooting: Manage intubated, mechanically ventilated neuro-critical patients, collaborating closely with Respiratory Therapy to perform pulmonary hygiene and emergency troubleshooting.
- Telemetry & Strip Interpretation: Independently read, analyze, and document cardiac rhythm strips on Philips monitoring platforms, validating data alongside the unit's scheduled telemetry techs.
Unit & Facility Details
- Department Setting: Neurosciences ICU (18 Beds).
- Patient Ratios: Strict 1:2 nurse-to-patient footprint for ICU care.
- Support System: 24/7 dedicated House Supervisor, an on-shift Unit Charge Nurse, and Patient Care Technicians/Aides staffed at a 9:1 ratio.
- Floating Matrix: Travelers float first. Given the high-acuity skill profile of a Neuro ICU nurse, you may float house-wide to Intermediate care units (1:3 ratio) or General Medical-Surgical floors (1:4 ratio).
- Scheduling: 12-hour nights. Requires every other weekend and rotating every other major holiday coverage.
