Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in an 18-bed Neuro ICU at a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Manage and titrate physician-ordered drips in accordance with ICU protocols
- Care for patients with common neuro diagnoses including stroke (with/without tPA), ventriculostomy, and post-craniectomy
- Monitor and interpret telemetry strips using Philips monitoring equipment alongside a dedicated tele tech on every shift
- Collaborate with charge nurses, house supervisors (available 24/7), and patient care techs to deliver coordinated care
- Float to lower levels of care including intermediate (1:3) and general floor units (1:4) as staffing requires; travelers float first
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification
- Hands-on experience with ventriculostomy, arterial lines, and central lines
- Proficiency with mechanical ventilators and respiratory therapy equipment (CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow)
- Experience with acute stroke management, tPA administration, and post-craniectomy care
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Prior travel or contract nursing experience in a neuro or neurosurgical ICU setting
- Comfort managing a wide variety of titratable drips in a high-acuity ICU environment
- Experience reading and interpreting telemetry strips independently
