Methodist Hospital, part of SA Health, is seeking a Cardiovascular ICU Clinical Nurse Coordinator to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team in our Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit. In this key leadership role, you will coordinate and deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill cardiovascular patients, including post–open-heart surgery, advanced cardiac interventions, and complex hemodynamic cases. You will function as both a clinical expert and a frontline leader, serving as a resource to bedside nurses, collaborating closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, and the broader multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate care.
The Cardiovascular ICU Clinical Nurse Coordinator will oversee daily patient flow, monitor staffing and assignments, support clinical decision-making, and assist with complex procedures and interventions at the bedside. You will champion adherence to clinical protocols, quality and safety initiatives, infection prevention practices, and regulatory standards, while helping to identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes and the overall patient and family experience. In partnership with unit leadership, you will help orient and mentor new staff, precept nurses building cardiovascular critical care competencies, and provide real-time coaching and feedback to support continuous professional growth.
Working within Methodist Hospital’s supportive and inclusive culture, you will model teamwork, effective communication, and accountability, fostering a collaborative environment where nurses feel empowered to speak up for patient safety and to participate in shared decision-making. You will help coordinate interdisciplinary rounds, participate in care conferences, and advocate for patient-centered care plans that respect cultural, spiritual, and psychosocial needs. Your strong organizational skills will be essential in prioritizing rapidly changing patient conditions, responding to emergencies, and ensuring timely documentation within the electronic medical record.
The ideal candidate is an experienced Registered Nurse with recent Cardiovascular ICU or high-acuity critical care experience, proficient in advanced cardiac monitoring, hemodynamic assessment, vasoactive medication titration, ventilator management, and post-operative cardiac care. You should demonstrate sound clinical judgment, excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, and a calm, supportive presence in high-stress situations. Leadership experience as a charge nurse, team lead, or preceptor is strongly preferred.
Methodist Hospital offers competitive salaries, comprehensive benefits, and robust professional development opportunities, including specialty certification support, continuing education, and leadership development. If you are a dedicated cardiovascular critical care nurse who is passionate about coordinating exceptional patient care and contributing to a culture of innovation, learning, and collaboration, we invite you to apply for the Cardiovascular ICU Clinical Nurse Coordinator position and grow your career with our dynamic team in San Antonio.
