The Lactation Consultant RN will:
• Identify educational needs of the Outpatient Mother-Baby, NICU, Antepartum and Pediatric breastfeeding mother. Give education, instruction, and support to patients (inpatient and outpatient) who express interest in breastfeeding their infants/children. Collaborate with Division and staff to identify needs in accordance with philosophy of the nursing division.
• Implement educational activities/programs as a role model and resource for breastfeeding. Mentor and orient staff. Assist with planning and presentation of a minimum of four programs annually.
• Evaluate educational activities once per year, including parents' knowledge and staff educational activities. Communication evaluation results to Manager within one week of completion.
• Record and report activities. Maintain statistics of parents consults on a bi-weekly basis, maintain attendance list of support groups on a monthly basis. Document on patient records (instruction, care and follow-up), when patient education is provided to breastfeeding mothers. Complete a revenue/expense report monthly, including grant(s) budget reporting.
• Provide consultation, promotion and support to medical staff as requested. Serve as resource to assist physicians and/or physician clientele with materials requested within 1-7 days of request. Communicate information on innovative and new methods through accepted Departmental mechanisms.
• Maintain skill and knowledge of current practice. Attend a minimum of two updates on lactation per year and mandatory in-service programs. Participation in various committee meetings.
• Develop and maintain good human relation skills while acting as a representative of the Women's' & Children's Division. Display respectful, empathetic, and caring attitude towards patients. Review the trends pertaining to patient satisfaction with lactation services and ways to improve patient satisfaction.
• Participate in nursing quality improvement. Provide leadership in design and monitoring of all lactation related documentation including policies, procedures and standards. Develop new teaching tools based on quality improvement recommendations from breastfeeding indicators.
• Maintain positive image of the Hospital. Act as liaison to community organizations. Maintain continuity of care for discharges patients by telephone and out-patient consultation.
• Participate as a reviewer in the peer review process.
Requirements: • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey
• BSN preferred or must be obtained within three (3) years of hire date.
• Three to five years of clinical experience in lactation or breastfeeding, along with current evidence based breastfeeding knowledge.
• Excellent teaching, communication, organizational, problem-solving, time management and counseling skills
• Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Proficient in the use of computers and related software applications
• BLS certification required, as approved by the American Heart Association.
• IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) certification.
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Provider) certification Part I required
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Provider) certification Part II obtained during clinical orientation

We offer competitive base rates that are determined by many factors, including
job-related work experience, internal equity, and industry-specific market data. In addition to base salary, some positions may be eligible for clinical certification pay and shift differentials.
The salary range listed for exempt positions reflects full-time compensation and will be prorated based on employment status.
