Job Summary
Seeking a highly adaptable, fast-paced Pediatric Emergency Department RN to support their dedicated Peds ED wing. This specialized contract requires an emergency nurse who can fluidly manage everything from routine childhood illnesses to high-acuity pediatric traumas and resuscitations. The incoming traveler must excel at rapid pediatric triage, weight-based calculations, emergency vascular access, and calming family crisis management under high-pressure scenarios.
Key Responsibilities
- Emergency Pediatric Triage: Apply standardized pediatric emergency triage frameworks (e.g., Emergency Severity Index - ESI) to accurately evaluate and prioritize incoming patients based on physiologic acuity.
- Pediatric Resuscitation & Stabilization: Actively participate in pediatric trauma activations, respiratory arrests, and septic shock protocols, executing precise PALS algorithms at the bedside.
- Weight-Based Pharmacology ($mg/kg$): Double-verify, calculate, and administer emergency weight-based medications, fluid resuscitations, and continuous high-alert infusions with zero margin for error.
- Vascular Access Mastery: Demonstrate advanced proficiency in difficult pediatric peripheral IV starts, laboratory blood collections, and secondary access setups (e.g., accessing central lines or preparing intraosseous lines in code scenarios).
- Airway & Respiratory Hyper-Vigilance: Constantly assess and manage pediatric patients presenting with acute respiratory compromise (e.g., severe asthma, croup, RSV, bronchiolitis), monitoring high-flow nasal cannula ($HFNC$) settings and mechanical interventions.
- Family-Centered Crisis Management: Provide clear, compassionate, and age-appropriate clinical education to pediatric patients and their guardians during highly stressful acute emergency episodes.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: 2+ years of recent, continuous hospital-based Pediatric Emergency Room experience. General ER background may be considered only if backed by heavy, dedicated pediatric volume.
- Certifications (Must be active at submission):
- AHA PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Highly Preferred: ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) or CPEN (Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse).
- Software Competency: Robust charting history utilizing specialized electronic medical record platforms (Epic EMR preferred).
