Key Responsibilities
- Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, develop and implement individualized plans of care, and evaluate treatment effectiveness in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Administer medications safely and in accordance with state practice standards and facility policies, including IV push medications and select drip titrations (Cardizem, heparin, amiodarone).
- Serve as the primary point of contact for care coordination across hospital departments, including communication with family members and caregivers.
- Manage patients presenting with cardiac, surgical, and respiratory illness, including post-op drains and wound vacs; participate in Tikosyn loading protocols.
- Advocate for patient safety by actively participating in ongoing quality improvement initiatives and collaborating with palliative, spiritual, and ethics teams as needed.
- Perform primary assessments and delegate appropriately within a team nursing model that may include LPNs and PCAs.
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license in the state of practice or covered under a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from an approved source required prior to direct patient care.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required.
- NIH Stroke Certification required.
- Dysrhythmia Exam required (study guide available upon request).
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required; acute care hospital setting experience required.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- CCRN or PCCN certification preferred.
- Experience with EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) system preferred.
- Completion of a Critical Care Course preferred.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
