Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac Stepdown / CVU

Contract | Days | Shifts: 0630–1900 and 1830–0700 | Every other weekend required
Key Responsibilities
- Provide intermediate cardiac care for patients including downgraded CVICU patients, supporting thoracic, EP, cath lab, and structural heart programs
- Manage and titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, cardizem, and blood pressure management medications
- Read and interpret telemetry strips independently; unit utilizes hardwired tele and tele box capabilities with remote tele tech support
- Maintain nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients within the first 24 hours on an 18-bed unit
- Collaborate with hospitalists, intensivists, cardiology on-call, and respiratory therapy to deliver comprehensive patient care
- Float to same-level and lower-acuity units as needed
Required Qualifications
- Active RN licensure
- Minimum 1 year of experience with cardiac stepdown or intermediate cardiac care patient population
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIHSS certification required
- Ability to titrate drips and independently read and interpret telemetry strips
- Must pass a unit-specific open-book skills exam with a minimum score of 90% during orientation
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience caring for patients with diagnoses including CVA, CHF, A-fib with RVR, and other cardiac and vascular conditions
- Familiarity with BiPAP and CPAP respiratory therapy equipment
- Experience working alongside cath lab, EP, and structural heart programs
