Key Responsibilities
- Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, develop and implement individualized plans of care, and evaluate treatment effectiveness for stepdown and intermediate care patients.
- Manage adult patients requiring post-ICU stepdown care, including those with hemodynamic instability, hypertensive emergencies requiring IV drips, and confusion or agitation requiring RN assessment and intervention.
- Safely administer medications and manage lines, drains, and devices including NG tubes, JP drains, Hemovac drains, wound vacs, chest tubes, central lines, PICC lines, and HD lines.
- Monitor and manage patients using all oxygen modalities except mechanical ventilation.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for care coordination across hospital departments, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team and communicating with patients and families.
- Act as a patient safety advocate through participation in ongoing quality improvement and adherence to infection control and universal precaution standards.
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license in the state of practice or covered under a nursing compact agreement.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from an approved source required prior to direct patient care.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required.
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification required.
- Successful completion of an EKG exam prior to start (study materials available).
- Minimum of 1 year of RN experience required; local candidates will not be considered for this position.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- At least 6 months of RN experience in an acute care hospital setting.
- CCRN or PCCN certification preferred.
- Experience with EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Completion of a Critical Care Course or equivalent training.
