Job Summary
A regional medical center in Wenatchee is seeking an adaptable, high-acuity Labor & Delivery RN for a nocturnal contract. This position requires complete nursing process autonomy across the obstetric continuum—spanning high-risk triage, active labor management, circulating operative deliveries, and immediate post-anesthesia recovery. The ideal candidate will blend advanced clinical judgment in electronic fetal monitoring with a patient-centered approach to family education and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Active Labor Case Management: Manage low-risk and high-risk laboring patients, executing ongoing holistic physiological assessments and adjusting plan-of-care milestones dynamically.
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring ($EFM$): Continuously analyze and interpret fetal heart rate tracings (evaluating baseline variability, accelerations, and decelerations), implementing immediate intrauterine resuscitation interventions for non-reassuring patterns.
- Pharmacological Interventions: Initiate, titrate, and monitor high-alert obstetric infusions, including oxytocin, magnesium sulfate protocols, and continuous epidural infusions.
- Operative Delivery Scrub & Circulation: Circulate or assist during scheduled and emergent Cesarean sections, forceps/vacuum deliveries, and postpartum tubal ligations within the dedicated L&D surgical suites.
- Immediate Neonatal Stabilization: Partner with the delivery team to provide immediate post-delivery care, utilizing advanced NRP guidelines for newborns requiring resuscitation or airway stabilization.
- Delegation & Oversight: Appropriately delegate tasks to and supervise non-licensed assistive personnel (CNA/OB Techs) to maintain a highly efficient, clean, and safe unit footprint.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of dedicated inpatient Labor & Delivery experience within an acute care environment.
- Regulatory Compliance: Proven adherence to the Washington Nurse Practice Act and evidence-based obstetric standards (AWHONN guidelines).
- Documentation Mastery: High proficiency with electronic nursing documentation, tracking all assessments, care plans, interventions, and emergency responses with high precision.
Unit & Facility Details
- Department Footprint: High-volume Labor & Delivery Unit (Cost Center: 111-7011).
- Schedule Context: Straight night shifts (19:00 – 07:30). Expected schedule requires standard weekend and holiday rotations native to a 24/7 obstetric unit.
- On-Call Mandate: On-call shifts are required, particularly during low-census cycles where scheduled staff are transitioned to standby status.
