The Department of Pediatrics at the UVA Health School of Medicine is seeking a full-time clinical track faculty psychologist in the Section of Pediatric Psychology and Behavioral Health to help develop and direct a Behavioral Consult-Liaison Service and provide one day a week of outpatient services in subspecialty integrated care or at our new Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Health Clinic. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience. Responsibilities include: Behavioral CL program development and leadership in collaboration with our current CL psychologist
Providing psychological evaluations for children and adolescents admitted for a variety of medical and surgical concerns, including functional disorders and youth with eating disorders or suicidal ideation who are awaiting placement for more intensive psychiatric services
Conducting short term interventions for youth admitted to the medical units or awaiting placement in the emergency department
Providing consultation to medical and interprofessional teams
Providing outpatient psychological evaluation and treatment for youth in an integrated subspecialty medical setting or in a new outpatient behavioral health clinic. There is a preference for a psychologist to work with gastrointestinal concerns such as functional abdominal pain, inflammatory bowel disease, and rumination disorder; we are open to other specialties as well. UVA Pediatric Psychology and Behavioral Health provides clinical service for the broader Department of Pediatrics and UVA Health Children's Hospital. The Section currently is comprised of eight pediatric and child clinical psychologists and is rapidly expanding with expectations to nearly double in the next year. This presents us with a remarkable opportunity to expand our team. The psychologists work closely with pediatrician colleagues, fellows, nurse practitioners, nurses, and multi-disciplined allied health staff. The Department of Pediatrics is an extremely collegial and collaborative department, and our pediatric psychologists and pediatrician colleagues have outstanding working relationships with providers in the community as well as with other pediatric subspecialists and colleagues in other areas of the UVA Health System. UVA Children's Hospital has been recognized as Virginia's #1 children's hospital by U.S. News and World Report for five consecutive years and holds national rankings in nine subspecialties inlcuding Pediatric & Adolescent Behavioral Health.
The University of Virginia Medical Center and Children's Hospital are located adjacent to the main university grounds of the University of Virginia. UVA Health Children's serves youth and families from Charlottesville and extensive surrounding rural areas including many refugee and immigrant communities. The general pediatrics clinics that will be staffed by these positions are located elsewhere in Charlottesville and in an adjacent county. The University of Virginia is annually ranked as one of the premier public institutions in the United States and is located in Charlottesville, a picturesque small but diverse, cosmopolitan city perennially ranked as one of the best places to live in the U.S. Qualifications Successful candidates must possess a PhD or equivalent from an APA-accredited program, have completed an APA-accredited internship, be licensed or license-eligible in Virginia, demonstrate cultural humility, and be skilled in interprofessional practice in a complex, academic medical environment. Candidates must have training in clinical child and pediatric psychology, and post-doctoral experience in pediatric consultation liaison is preferred.
