A patient-focused healthcare organization is hiring an ICU Registered Nurse (RN) for a permanent, full-time opportunity in a 7-bed Intensive Care Unit. This role offers the opportunity to provide high-quality critical care in a collaborative environment with low nurse-to-patient ratios, strong interdisciplinary support, and access to advanced respiratory and cardiac monitoring equipment.
Position Overview
· Permanent, full-time role
· 7-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
· 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
· Day and night shift opportunities available
· Nihon Kohden telemetry monitoring system (RNs interpret their own strips)
· ICU staff primarily remain within the unit with occasional floating support opportunities
Shift Details
· 12-hour shifts
· Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
· Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
· Schedules posted 6 weeks in advance
· Block scheduling may be accommodated upon request
Weekend & Holiday Requirements
· Every third weekend for night shift staff
· Every other weekend for day shift staff
· Workweek runs Sunday through Saturday
· Holiday requirements negotiable; willingness to work holidays appreciated
· No call or standby requirements, though picking up additional shifts is appreciated
Unit Features
· ICU is primarily total patient care
· Charge nurse may take patient assignments
· Clinical Care Coordinator support on day shift
· House Supervisor support available during nights and weekends
· Hospitalist and Nurse Practitioner available daily and on-call overnight
· ER and anesthesia teams assist with emergent situations including intubations
· Cardiopulmonary physician support available for intubations as needed
· Respiratory Therapy (RT) available in-house 24/7
· Equipment includes ventilators, BiPAP, and Vapotherm
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
· COPD
· Atrial fibrillation (AFIB)
· Post-operative patients including colon resections
· Diabetic patients
· COVID-19 patients
· Occasional alcohol withdrawal cases
· Suicidal patients
· Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeds
Common Drips & Clinical Responsibilities
· Manage and titrate critical drips including Cardizem, Levophed, and Insulin
· Provide care for minimally sedated and ventilated patients
· Monitor cardiac rhythms and interpret telemetry strips
· Deliver compassionate, high-quality critical care in a fast-paced ICU environment
· Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure positive patient outcomes
· Maintain accurate and detailed patient documentation
Floating Requirements
· ICU staff may occasionally float to Med-Surg/Acute Care units with a 1:4 ratio
· Travelers generally remain in the ICU
· Core staff may float between units as needed
· Both ICU and Med-Surg units operate under the same director and utilize the same charting format
Requirements
· Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
· Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required
· ICU experience strongly preferred
· CPR Certification (Required)
· ACLS Certification (Required)
· PALS Certification (Required – may be obtained onsite)
· Strong critical thinking and assessment skills
· Experience titrating ICU drips required
Scrub Color / Dress Code
· Pewter-colored scrub tops or jackets
· Black pants, shoes, and socks
· Colored tops permitted if the outermost layer is pewter
Orientation & Training
Comprehensive orientation process includes:
· Day 1: 12-hour shift focused on HR onboarding, infection control, computer-based learning, and equipment training with Staff Development
· Day 2: Additional 4 hours of unit orientation and Staff Development
· Day 3: 12-hour precepted shift on the floor for hands-on patient care experience
