A patient-focused healthcare organization is hiring an Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ER/ED RN) for a permanent, full-time opportunity in a fast-paced emergency care environment. This role offers the opportunity to care for a diverse patient population while working collaboratively with physicians, respiratory therapy, ER technicians, and interdisciplinary support teams in an 11-bed Emergency Department.
Position Overview
· Permanent, full-time ER RN role
· 11-bed Emergency Department
· Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3 or 1:4
· ER holds managed directly by ER nursing staff
· Nihon Koden telemetry monitoring system (RNs interpret their own telemetry strips)
· 24/7 physician coverage with 12-hour Nurse Practitioner coverage
· Charge nurse carries patient assignments
· House Supervisor support available after 3 PM daily
Shift Details
· 12-hour shifts
· Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (Saturday & Sunday)
· Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (Friday & Saturday or Saturday & Sunday)
· Every other weekend and holiday required
· Scheduling completed on a 6-week rotation
· Scheduling based on departmental needs with flexibility required
· No required call or standby, though open call shifts may be available for pickup
Weekend Program Incentives
Employees select a weekend commitment level upon entering the Weekender Program for a minimum one-year commitment:
· 5 out of 6 weekends worked: Eligible for additional $7.00/hour flat rate
· 11 out of 12 weekends worked: Eligible for additional $11.00/hour flat rate
· Additional weekend premium applies only to eligible weekend shift hours worked
Unit Features
· No trauma level designation
· Not a STEMI or Stroke Center
· No fast-track area
· One triage room utilized when patient rooms are full
· Two safe behavioral health rooms integrated within the ER
· Security available, though not staffed 24/7
· Approximately 40 patients treated daily
· ER Technicians available 24/7
· PRN sitters available for patient observation support
· Respiratory Therapy available for ABGs, intubations, EKGs, and breathing treatments
· Portable X-ray available onsite
· Radiology transports patients except for STAT stroke head CTs, which are transported by ER staff
· Nurses perform initial IV attempts with phlebotomy follow-up as needed
· Steri-path system utilized for blood culture draws
· RT equipment includes ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and Vapotherm
Patient Population
· Cardiac patients
· Respiratory patients
· Gastrointestinal (GI) patients
· Behavioral health patients
· ER hold patients intermixed within the department
Key Responsibilities
· Provide direct emergency nursing care to patients with acute and emergent conditions
· Perform rapid patient assessments and prioritize care effectively
· Manage ER holds alongside active emergency patient assignments
· Monitor telemetry and interpret cardiac rhythm strips
· Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, ER technicians, and interdisciplinary teams
· Troubleshoot respiratory support equipment including ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and Vapotherm
· Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation
· Float to supportive task assignments as needed
· May occasionally serve in sitter responsibilities as agency staff
Requirements
· Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
· Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience preferred
· Experience with cardiac, respiratory, and GI patient populations required
· Ability to manage 1:3 or 1:4 nurse-to-patient assignments
· ACLS Certification (Required)
· BLS Certification (Required)
· PALS Certification (Required)
· SANE Certification required (effective January 2023)
· Strong critical thinking and emergency assessment skills
· Experience reading telemetry strips required
Floating Requirements
· Occasional floating to task assignments may be required
· ER nurses may assist in supportive roles based on departmental needs

Orientation & Training
· Orientation is typically conducted 1:1 with the department Clinical Care Coordinator during the first week
· Orientation length and structure may vary based on EMR and departmental experience
