Shift: Days, 6am to 6pm, 36 hours per week. Weekends required, holidays potentially required

Job Description:
A Registered Nurse (RN) for the Family Birthing Center independently assesses and evaluates the health status of both labor and neonate patients utilizing objective and subjective data and identifying health care problems. Through the care planning process, the RN collaborates with the patient, family, providers, and others on the healthcare team to establish realistic and measurable short and long term goals; prioritizing needs through planning, and the implementation of all interventions to include patient education and counseling. The RN must maintain safe and effective care throughout the episode of care through the institution of standard procedures that stabilize each patient's condition or through the prevention of serious complications in emergency situations. Each intervention is evaluated and documented to determine the outcome of care and if additional interventions are required to achieve optimal health outcomes. The RN acts as a patient advocate.
Responsibilities:
- Directly provides patient care and monitors the patient's response to labor, delivery, and postpartum phases of pregnancy, assisting and educating in breastfeeding as needed.
- Promotes wellness for the mother during pregnancy and after delivery through continuous education.
- Provides education to the mother about infant care.
- Documents all events and education in the patient medical record utilizing computers.
- Communicates the patient's condition verbally and in writing to the physician and the nursing supervisor.
- Assists other FBC staff in maintaining skills and learning new procedures and equipment.
- Collaborates with nursery nurse in care of mother/baby couplet.
- Assists physicians with procedures.
- Assists nurse manager as requested.
- Assists staff with emergencies in other nursing units when possible.
- Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment for all patients in the FBC unit.
Requirements:
- Minimum of an Associate's Degree (ADN) from an accredited nursing program.
- 2+ years of LDRP experience.
- Maintain current, active license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Colorado.
- Maintain current BLS certification.
- Maintain current ACLS certification.
- PALS, NRP preferred.
