Responsibilities:
- Supports and maintains neuroprosthetic implantable devices. Procedures include, but are not limited to: Pump Studies, Spinal Infusion Pump Refills, Reprogramming and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrates clinical competence in principles of asepsis in the clinical environment
- Demonstrates clinical competence in refill/reprogramming calculations, catheter volume calculations and problem-solving skills as they relate to implanted Spinal Infusion pumps.
- Assists Physicians with chronic pain/spasticity treatment procedures in the clinic.
- Coordinates with community home care agency(s) when directed to assure continuity of care for patients with implanted intrathecal pumps.
- Provides patient and family teaching specifics to implantable devices.
- Reviews medication agreements with all patients who are prescribed opiates or benzodiazepines.
- Provides phone triage and assesses patient needs, provides advice, acts as a liaison between patients and their providers, and acts as patient advocates.
Qualifications:
Education:
- As required by licensure.
- BSN or degree in progress strongly preferred.
- BSN may be required for specific assignments; experienced RNs without a BSN may be hired based on clinical experience with approval of the site CNO.
Experience:
- Demonstrated ability of positive interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, physicians and the community.
Skills:
- All nursing staff employed within this clinical setting are required to demonstrate proficiency in nursing care to patients undergoing complex interventional pain management therapies; age-specific care, including both pediatric and geriatric.
Licensure:
- Current applicable state RN license required.
- ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- BLS for Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
- PALS certification from the American Heart Association.
