Optical Design Engineer – SE London/Kent – Scientific Instruments

About the Company:

We are looking for a Design Engineer with significant optics and instrument development experience to join an established, expanding company in the Southeast London/ Kent area.

Responsibilities:

Provide full technical support for existing optical products and manage enhancement projects.
Lead optical design and development from concept through validation and production.
Translate product requirements into technical specifications and testing methods.
Maintain robust design control, risk assessment (DFMEA/DFM), and documentation.
Act as a technical authority, guiding design decisions and cross-functional collaboration.
Define and execute optical testing standards and analyse results to support development.

Requirements:

Degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
Proven experience in optical system design and product development.
Strong understanding of illumination, interferometry, spectroscopy, and polarisation.
Skilled in simulation software (e.g., Zemax, CodeV, LightTools).
Proficient in DFM/DFA principles, tolerance analysis, and statistical performance evaluation.
Solid knowledge of optical manufacturing methods and precision processes.
Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
