Med/Surg RN Job Details
- Location: Rapid City, SD (57701) – South Dakota nursing jobs
- Facility: Recovery Care Center – Medical Surgical Unit
- Assignment Type: 13-week travel RN contract (Start: 11/24/2025 – End: 2/23/2026)
- Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM), no on-call required
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Weekend Shifts: Approximately 5 weekend shifts per month (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:3-4
- Unit Size: 28 inpatient beds
- Dress Code: Black scrubs
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active RN license in South Dakota or compact state (or willingness to obtain for travel nursing jobs)
- At least 1 year of recent Med/Surg or post-surgical nursing experience
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and EKG strip interpretation
- BLS certification (AHA required)
- ACLS certification (AHA preferred)
- Proficient in medication administration, IV infusions, blood transfusions, wound vac management, PICC line management, and post-surgical patient education
- Skilled in EKGs, bladder scanning, Foley placement, straight catheterization, patient admits, and discharges
- Familiarity with computerized charting systems (CPSI preferred)
Med/Surg RN Responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care to medical-surgical and post-surgical patients
- Administer medications, IV infusions, and blood transfusions
- Monitor telemetry and interpret EKG strips for clinical support
- Manage wound vacs, PICC lines, and perform bladder scans
- Perform Foley and straight catheterizations
- Educate patients and families on post-surgical care and recovery
- Complete patient admissions and discharges
- Document care using the CPSI electronic charting system
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes
- Participate in orientation and on-the-job training with a dedicated preceptor
