Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg Float Pool RN for a Level II Trauma Center with night shifts and Cerner EMR experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Work in a large hospital setting with Med/Surg Float Pool assignments
- Primary units include trauma surgical, neuroscience, med/surg oncology, clinical decision, orthopedics, and urology
- Patient types range from general surgery, trauma, neuro, oncology, ortho, urology, and complex medical cases
- Patient ratios typically 1:5-6, varies by unit
- Uses Cerner EMR, Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
- Telemetry is monitored by techs, RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
- Night shift, 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month are required
- Floating required to like units as needed
- No on-call responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive care to a diverse adult patient population across multiple med/surg and specialty units
- Support available from CNA staff, charge nurse, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalists
- Receive 24 hours classroom orientation and 24 hours unit orientation for first-time or returning travelers after 1+ years
- Must participate in holiday rotation for one major and one minor holiday per policy
- Scrub color is flexible; any color is accepted
- First-time travelers are welcome if they meet the experience requirements
- Maximum 7 days off can be approved outside specified blackout dates
- Parking available in deck on 2nd through 4th levels
Requirements
- Active AL or compact RN license required
- BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months recent Med/Surg experience, including at least 1 year trauma or surgical experience
- Experience with Cerner or Epic EMR required
- Strong skills in wound care, chest tubes, NGT, medication administration, IVs, and documentation
- Telemetry experience preferred
- Perm staff must have 6 months gap since last employed before returning as a traveler
- No local candidates allowed within a 60-mile radius
