Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position in a Level II Trauma Center, requiring at least two years of recent critical care experience and proficiency with Cerner or Epic.
Responsibilities
- Position is based in a hospital Emergency Department with very high acuity, functioning as a Level I
- Cares for a diverse patient population including trauma, STEMI, stroke, CHF, COPD, GI, GU, OB/GYN, pediatrics, and psychiatric cases
- Patient ratios are 1:4 for ER, 1:5 for medical-surgical holds, and 1:3 for ICU holds
- Cerner is the EMR used in this facility
- Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
- No floating required
- Unit is supported by CNAs, receptionist/HUC, phlebotomy until 0300, IV/VAT team, charge nurse, and hospitalist
- Shifts available include 7a-7p, 7p-7a, 11a-11p, and 3p-3a on a 4-week schedule cycle
- Weekend rotation is every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month, with no on-call
- Responsibilities include providing comprehensive ER nursing care to a high-acuity patient population
- Orientation includes 24 hours classroom and 24 hours on-unit for new or returning travelers absent over one year
- Scrubs in any solid color are permitted
- Parking is available in the parking garage
- Holiday coverage includes one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
- Up to 7 days of requested time off can be approved, excluding blackout dates
- This is not a teaching facility
- First-time travelers are welcome if minimum requirements are met
Requirements
- Active AL or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC, and a nationally recognized Secure/CPI certification
- At least two years of recent critical care experience (ICU or ER), with the most recent year in a Level II ER and Cerner or Epic experience
- Experience caring for Level II Trauma or higher patients required
- Proficiency in trach care, vent care, ICU drips, chest tube, art line, central line, PICC, midline, port, foley, orthopedic splint/device application, BiPAP/Hi-Flow, and continuous bladder irrigation
- First-time travelers accepted with at least two years of experience and Cerner or Epic experience
- Perm staff must wait 6 months before returning as a traveler
- Must live more than 60 miles from the facility
