Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a high-acuity Level II Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of two years' ER or critical care experience and advanced certifications.
Responsibilities
- Work in a busy Emergency Department at a Level II Trauma Center
- 71-bed ED with very high acuity, functioning at Level I standards
- Care for multi-system trauma, STEMI, stroke, CHF, COPD, GI, GU, OB/GYN, pediatrics, and psychiatric patients
- ER nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4; medical-surgical holds: 1:5; ICU holds: 1:3
- No floating required
- Shift options include 7a-7p, 7p-7a, 11a-11p, and 3p-3a
- Weekend rotation required: every other or four weekend days per month
- Parking garage available for staff
- Uses Cerner EMR, Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
- First-time travelers are eligible with required experience and EMR background
- Team includes CNA support (1:12), charge nurse, receptionist/HUC, phlebotomy available until 3am, IV/VAT team, and hospitalists
- Orientation includes 24 hours classroom and 24 hours unit time for new or returning travelers away 1+ years
- Scrubs may be any solid color
- No on-call requirements
- Holiday rotation includes one major and one minor holiday as per policy; blackout dates apply
- Up to seven days of time off may be approved, excluding blackout dates
Requirements
- Active AL or Compact RN license
- Minimum two years of recent ER or critical care experience, with at least one year in a Level II ER
- Cerner or EPIC EMR experience required
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC, and Secure/CPI (JACHO accepted)
- Experience with trach and vent care, ICU drip management, chest tubes, arterial lines, central lines, PICC, midline, ports, foley and orthopedic device application, BiPAP/Hi-Flow, and continuous bladder irrigation
- Perm staff must be separated from the facility for at least six months before being considered as a traveler
- Must live at least 60 miles from the facility
