Job Description
      American Traveler is seeking a skilled RN for a Med/Surg Tele position specializing in hematology/oncology care with oncology experience preferred and every other weekend shifts.
      
            Responsibilities
            - Position is in a hospital setting on a 40-bed hematology/oncology med-surg telemetry unit
- Patient population includes hematology and oncology patients, leukemia, symptom management, and end-of-life care
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 depending on acuity
- Telemetry monitoring is centralized, with RNs required to verify strips each shift
- Shifts available are 1830-0700 (nights), with a rotation every other weekend
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of major holidays
- Floating is within the cancer center first, and then to any med-surg unit in the hospital
- No on-call required
- Uses Epic for EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell dispensing, and Philips monitors
- Responsibilities include care for oncology patients, symptom management, comfort care, and end-of-life support
- Department support includes CNAs, receptionists, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team during days, respiratory therapists, and hospitalists 24/7
- Initial orientation consists of New Employee Orientation plus two days departmental training
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Free onsite parking provided
- First-time travelers with the required experience are welcome to apply
- Up to 7 days of requested time off considered, with extension required
- Travelers will participate in a rotating holiday coverage schedule
Requirements
      - Active RN license required
- Minimum of one year recent med/surg tele or oncology nursing experience required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) required if assigned to Resource Team
- ONS and OCN certifications preferred
- Competency in port access, blood product administration, electrolyte management, EOL care, pain/symptom management, PIV starts, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- Experience using Epic EMR preferred
