Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Observation unit position requiring an active IN or compact license, strong assessment skills, and recent Epic experience.
Responsibilities
- Position is based in a hospital Observation Medical/Surgical unit
- Day shifts are 12 hours from 6:30am to 7:00pm
- Unit has 23 beds with day patient ratios ranging from 1:4 to 1:5
- Cares for cardiac, neuro, post-surgical, GI/urology, detox, and a variety of med/surg patients
- Requires floating within skillset to sister campuses in Newburgh, IN and Henderson, KY with 2 hours' notice for cross-campus float; mid-shift cross-campus float is unlikely but possible
- Weekend block scheduling option is available
- Works three weekends every six weeks and every other holiday
- Uses Epic EMR system and completion of checkoff class is required
- No on-call or call back required
- Care for patients with cardiac, CVA/TIA, hypotensive, and post-surgical conditions, as well as those undergoing GI/urology procedures and detoxification
- May be required to precept students and new hires due to teaching hospital environment
- Supports a collaborative and welcoming team with strong leadership and low turnover
- Must wear navy blue scrubs without hoodies, sweatshirts, or competitor/agency logos
- COVID-19 vaccination is not currently required but is subject to change
- Must maintain reliable attendance as excessive call-ins may result in termination
- Orientation is provided on a bi-weekly basis
Requirements
- Active RN license in Indiana or compact state required
- Current AHA BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum two years of strong recent Med/Surg RN experience and at least one prior travel assignment required
- Recent Epic charting experience required
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
- Experience with cardiac cath recovery, post-surgical care, NIHSS/neuro assessment, drip titration (Heparin, Insulin), drain management, foley/straight cath care, NG tube insertion, and blood administration/documentation required
- Must be able to work within a 40 mile radius from the facility; no local candidates accepted
