Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Observation unit position requiring a compact or IN license, recent EPIC experience, and strong cardiac and neuro skills.
Responsibilities
- Work in a 23-bed Observation/Med/Surg unit within a hospital setting
- Primary patient population includes cardiac, neuro (CVA/TIA), hypotensive, GI/urology pre/post procedure, post-surgical, detox/CIWA, and other acute patients
- Patient ratios are 1:4-5 (0700-1500), 1:5-6 (1500-1900), 1:6-7 (1900-0700), with charge nurse taking assignment on all shifts
- Day shifts are 12 hours (6:30-19:00), with weekend block options available
- Requires floating within skillset, including to two nearby campuses with 2-hour notice for cross-campus float
- EPIC EMR is used and recent experience with EPIC is required
- Role may involve precepting students and new hires in a teaching hospital setting
- Team-oriented environment with strong support and low turnover under experienced leadership
- Required to work three weekends in every six-week schedule and every other holiday
- First to float within skillset as needed, with potential cross-campus floating within an 11-mile radius
- Navy blue scrubs required; no hoodies, sweatshirts, or logos from competing health systems/agencies
- COVID-19 vaccination is not currently required but is subject to change
- No local candidates accepted within a 40-mile radius
Requirements
- Active IN or compact state RN license required
- Current AHA BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum two years of strong Med/Surg experience and at least one prior travel assignment required
- Recent experience with EPIC charting system
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills, including cardiac cath recovery, post-surgical care, neuro assessment, drip titration, blood administration, drain management, and more
