Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring WA or compact RN license and expertise in high-acuity obstetrical care.
Responsibilities
- Position is based in the Birth Center within a hospital setting
- Unit includes 15 labor rooms, 12 antepartum, 4 OB ED, and 3 ORs with 34 labor beds and 18 postpartum beds
- High-acuity patient population includes hypertension, Mg administration, C-sections, preterm labor, insulin drips, multiple births, and postpartum hemorrhage
- Average of up to 300 deliveries per month
- Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines with 1:1 for active labor, 1:2 for non-active laboring, and 1:2-3 for antepartum depending on acuity
- Schedule consists of 12-hour night shifts, with every other weekend required and variable rotation
- Floating may be required to antepartum or postpartum units within scope and experience (not required for ANM positions)
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris CareFusion IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, Centricity/Qx fetal monitors, CAD Solaris epidural pumps, Panda Warmers, and Covidien SCDs
- Primary responsibilities include labor management, care of high-risk obstetric patients, delivery support, and post-delivery mother/newborn recovery
- L&D RNs may be responsible for triage and postpartum care as needed
- Support staff includes CNA, scrub techs, HUC, free-floating charge nurse, phlebotomy, break nurses, 24/7 RT, and in-house laborist with residents and midwives
- Orientation includes hospital and unit precepting, with traditional and CAP orientation tracks available
- Holiday coverage is fair and equitable with RTO requests required prior to contract approval
- Facility-provided scrubs must be worn while on duty and not outside the facility
- Free parking is available with badge access
- First-time travelers may be considered upon review if other experience criteria are met
Requirements
- Active WA or compact RN license required; pending license must include proof of application
- Minimum of 3 years L&D RN experience required; 5+ years preferred
- Current BLS, NRP, and Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring (AWHONN) certifications required
- High-acuity labor and delivery experience including triage, OB OR circulation, cervical checks, fetal monitoring strip interpretation, and management of high-risk obstetric patients required
- Proficiency with Epic EMR required
- Successful completion of a cardiac rhythm interpretation exam prior to arrival
