Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma and academic medical center, requiring a NC or compact RN license and at least two years of MST experience.
Responsibilities
- Hospital-based Med/Surg Tele unit with 24 beds
- Level 1 Trauma Center and academic teaching environment
- Patient population includes general medicine cases such as DM, GI, respiratory, renal, wounds, chest tubes, trachs, and lab draws
- Average RN to patient ratio is 5-6:1
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
- Centralized telemetry monitoring is utilized
- Shift options available: 0630-1900 or 1830-0630
- Every other weekend rotation is required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Holiday coverage expected for 75% of major holidays
- Floating required to other Med/Surg units
- Daily responsibilities include direct and indirect patient care, medication administration, and monitoring telemetry
- Support provided by CNAs, HUC/reception, charge nurse, phlebotomy, rapid response team, RT, hospitalists, and intensivists 24/7
- Orientation includes NEO and two days of departmental training
- Scrub color is royal blue

- Manager approval is required for requested time off
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license
- Minimum two years of Med/Surg Tele experience required
- Current certifications in BLS and ACLS
- NIHSS certification required for Resource Team roles
- Ability to read telemetry strips and manage gtts including Amiodarone, Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, and Heparin
- Experience with chest tubes, trachs, PIV starts, drains, tubes, and PCA pumps
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
- Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels and work collaboratively
