Position Details The Opportunity Reporting to the Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Planning (VPSEP), the Associate Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Planning (AVPSEP) provides vision and leadership for institution-wide efforts to optimize the size, composition and net tuition revenue of the student body. The AVPSEP will develop and execute comprehensive, data-informed strategies that respond to shifting demographics, market conditions, and institutional priorities while fostering innovative service models that elevate the student experience and strengthen faculty and staff support and improve divisional systems and workflows. This role will also play a central part in cross-campus coordination, collaborating with academic leaders, administrative partners, and members of the president's cabinet to advance informed decision-making and long-range institutional planning.
The AVPSEP oversees a team of 40 professionals across undergraduate admissions, enrollment operations, and enrollment research, managing a high-impact office that annually reviews more than 43,000 first year applications, enrolls approximately 3,400 new students, and hosts thousands of campus visitors each year. In this capacity, the AVPSEP directs all aspects of undergraduate recruitment and admissions, ensuring the university meets enrollment goals for both first-time and transfer students. The position requires the development of innovative recruitment strategies that expand enrollment demand, attract a diverse and academically strong student body, and deliver an exceptional campus visit and application experience. This work includes close collaboration with enrollment marketing partners in the Office of Communications and Public Affairs to design and execute an integrated communications strategy across the admissions website, print and digital media, email campaigns, and social platforms.
A central responsibility of the AVPSEP is to establish a robust enrollment research and reporting function that translates data into actionable insights to guide strategy and operations. The AVPSEP will analyze demographic and enrollment trends to refine outreach, implement best practices in enrollment marketing and communications, and leverage technology to improve efficiency in recruitment, application review, and student interactions. Ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all admissions and enrollment data, the AVPSEP will lead special projects, promote innovative uses of technology, and drive a systems-level approach that connects insight to strategy and strategy to measurable action. Ultimately, this leader will ensure UTampa continues to recruit, enroll, and support a dynamic student body that advances institutional success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential duties and responsibilities for the Associate Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Planning are as follows:
Leadership and Execution
- Serve as a valuable thought partner to the VPSEP and other senior enrollment leaders, and a visible, collaborative, and credible leader for the Strategic Enrollment Planning division.
- Translate high-level enrollment strategy into actionable plans, metrics, and operational enhancements that elevate institutional performance; develop, implement, and monitor multi-year strategic enrollment and financial aid models in coordination with the VPSEP.
- Analyze and interpret internal and external data to inform strategies related to student search, recruitment, yield, retention and tuition revenue.
- Oversee and continuously refine enrollment dashboards, key performance indicators and predictive models used by University leadership.
- Provide an experienced, contemporary approach to talent-based awards and need-based financial aid that reflect the financial resources and strategic priorities of the University; offer strategies for modeling and leveraging financial aid with the ability to forecast enrollment, discount and net tuition revenue.
- Serve on UTampa's Administrative Council representing the division of Enrollment Management, offering insight, collaboration and information to senior leadership.
Recruitment, Admissions, Operations and Technology
- Establish goals, motivate and manage staff, and monitor progress of core functional units; foster a culture of mentorship, staff development, critical thinking, collaboration, leadership, accountability and empowerment within the division.
- Provide insight and direction in establishing and communicating systems, policies, and practices which support enrollment, retention and revenue goals.
- Maintain strong relationships with school counselors, college counselors, and community-based organizations to build awareness and enhance the reputation of the University.
- Optimize a centralized enrollment operation and all technology systems; administer and maintain the Technolutions Slate strategic enrollment management CRM platform and assure a highly functional interface with Workday Student, supporting both undergraduate and graduate enrollments.
- Reimagine how student enrollment transactions and services are rendered by optimizing technology, internal processes, and touchpoints to improve student interaction, collaboration and efficiency across departments, and improve business sustainability.
Cross-Institutional Collaboration
- Foster positive and collaborative relationships across offices and departments to support transparency, problem-solving, and achievement of shared institutional goals.
- Strategize with the colleges, schools, and departments to support enrollment initiatives and provide coordination in creating a comprehensive overview of enrollment transactions and systems.
- Facilitate impactful cross-institution initiatives, acting as a strategic partner and skilled problem solver in addressing challenges across campus.
- Collaborate with Information Technology and Security, and other University departments to ensure accurate data flow and system integration; partner with offices across the institution to fully leverage data integration, improving efficiency and access to information across the institution.
- Promote a culture that values the contributions of alumni in enhancing the reputation of the University, and recognizes and supports alumni contributions in the successful recruitment of students.
- Facilitate the recruitment of student athletes by working closely with the athletic department personnel and coaches in a timely and efficient manner.
Enrollment Marketing
- Enhance and lead a sophisticated enrollment marketing function, demonstrate expertise in evolving consumer expectations and behavior, and changes in channels of communication.
- Partner with University communications and marketing to develop strategic, impactful and influential outreach campaigns, building UTampa's awareness and reputation.
- Demonstrate a keen understanding of student and family needs in the development of communication plans that inform, educate, and facilitate engagement, affinity and enrollment.
- Enhance top-of-funnel student search engagement for both undergraduate and graduate admissions.
- Lead the admission team and support the community in articulating the distinctions, benefits, and value of a UTampa education in a compelling and impactful manner.
Qualifications, Skills, and Characteristics This role requires eight or more years of progressive experience working in college admissions and/or within enrollment management, including at least five years of supervisory experience. A bachelor's degree is required, however a master's degree is strongly preferred. In addition, the ideal candidate will also possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Competitive spirit and demonstrated knowledge with proven success in leading highly successful admission office(s) including individual and team development, enrollment planning, demographics, best practices, marketing strategies, communications, and enrollment management strategy;
- Demonstrated deep understanding of national trends and issues in higher education, college admissions, and the evolving needs of students and families;
- Masterful change manager and innovative problem solver with the ability to work across teams positively and effectively fostering shared responsibility and accountability; a demonstrated history of building strong, positive relationships with campus partners;
- Strength in statistical research and analytical capacity; strong data acumen and the ability to use data to understand issues and develop effective strategies; the ability to distill complex data into clear, actionable insights for various stakeholders;
- Technically savvy and operationally fluent with the ability to maximize enrollment processes, develop effective pricing, merit, and financial aid models, and utilize platforms and tools such as Slate, Workday and Tableau;
- An understanding of NCAA regulations for Division II athletics and the ability to build partnerships with coaches and athletic administrators to facilitate the strategic recruitment of student athletes;
- Strong project management skills with a bias toward action, accountability, and continuous improvement;
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including excellent public speaking skills, with the ability to build relationships, communicate clearly and compellingly, and enhance the positive reputation of the division and institution across audiences;
- Even-keeled and positive temperament with impeccable integrity, appropriate transparency, and excellent judgment; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and collegially, yet independently, with internal and external constituencies;

- Direct experience in student search including the name purchases, campaign design and evaluation, increasing student engagement, and vendor management; and
