The
County Executive is the chief officer of Marin County government-appointed by the Board of Supervisors to lead a 3,000-employee organization, oversee 22 County departments and implement the Board's strategic direction. This includes driving cross-departmental coordination and public services that improve the lives of over 250,000 Marin County residents. The County Executive reports to all five County Supervisors and serves as the public face of County operations and initiatives - meeting regularly with local, regional, and state leaders.
The
Office of the County Executive (OCE) is the strategic center of the organization. In addition to overseeing Countywide operations and managing the County's $840 million budget, the office ensures the Board's initiatives focused on affordable housing, climate, racial equity, emergency response, economic vitality, and long-term planning are implemented timely and effectively. We coordinate major policy efforts, prepare Board agendas, manage intergovernmental affairs, and ensure County departments are aligned in serving the community.

ABOUT THE POSITION We are seeking an Executive Associate to the County Executive to serve as the
primary staff support to the County Executive -someone who can anticipate needs, manage complex workflows, and act as a key partner in the day-to-day execution of executive priorities.
This confidential position is not just about administrative support; it is about strategic coordination. The County Executive manages dozens of internal and external meetings each week, engages across all levels of government and community, and is responsible for leading the entire County organization. This role exists to ensure the County Executive is prepared, well-supported, and able to focus on what matters most. The person in this position will help drive key initiatives forward, ensure follow-up is clear and timely, and serve as a direct extension of the County Executive.
It is a demanding, highly trusted role that requires discretion, emotional intelligence, strong writing skills, and exceptional organization and planning skills, and attention to detail. You'll help manage the flow of information, prepare high-quality materials, coordinate communications, and act as a liaison with departments, cities and towns, external partners, and regional agencies. You'll also help translate strategy into action-ensuring priorities don't fall through the cracks, and that the County Executive can lead with clarity, confidence, and connection.

Key Responsibilities - Executive support and strategic scheduling: Manage the County Executive's calendar and engagements with strategic foresight-ensuring time is used purposefully, agendas are aligned with priorities, and meetings are well-prepared and actionable.
- Briefing and presentation preparation : Coordinate, prepare and format executive-level materials including talking points, presentation slides, participant bios, memos, and public remarks-tailored to high-profile audiences and engagements.
- Project and initiative support: Track deadlines, deliverables, and next steps across cross-departmental projects, ensuring progress and accountability on behalf of the County Executive.
- Internal and external liaison: Communicate on behalf of the County Executive with department heads, city and town managers, elected officials, regional agency staff, and community stakeholders.
- Confidential and high-level communication: Draft and edit clear, accurate, and polished communications. Handle sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism at all times.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education, training and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills required. A typical way to qualify is college coursework in business administration, accounting, economics, public administration or a related field and three years of increasingly responsible office administrative experience that included supporting an executive and performing professional level duties such as analysis, research, budget management and preparing reports and recommendations. Lead experience is highly desirable.
