The opportunity: Reporting to the Vice President, Advanced Wealth Planning Strategy and Services, the Associate Vice-President, Trust and Estate Planning is responsible for providing advanced guidance and strategic advice on estate management and wealth transfer strategies. The Associate Vice-President, Trust and Estate Planning will play a key role in supporting the Advanced Wealth Planning Group and Advisor teams by consulting on client files and developing a variety of thought leadership tools and resources. This role will collaborate with internal teams and their clients to provide valuable insights and ensure that Advisors have the most up-to-date and relevant information to assist clients.
Key responsibilities include: - Understanding and highlighting estate planning strategies for clients, including the use of trusts, wills, and other estate planning vehicles.
- Reviewing clients' estate plans to help ensuring a smooth wealth transfer and minimizing estate tax exposure.
- Drafting, reviewing and presenting customized estate planning, incapacity, estate administration and trust guidance and commentary for clients, Advisor teams and the Advanced Wealth Planning team.
- Serving as subject matter expert on sophisticated estate questions and issues for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients.
- Providing advanced estate planning and other wealth planning support for the Advanced Wealth Planning team, Advisors and clients.
- Producing written reports and wealth plans for complex client situations, advising on tax, estate and other wealth planning opportunities, strategies and issues.
- Participating in and/or lead meetings with Advisors, clients and/or their external advisors on matters relating to estate planning.
- Collaborating and working closely with clients' other professional advisors in the spirit of delivering a holistic experience.
- Demonstrating a consultative and collaborative value-added approach in client conversations, acting as a subject matter expert to facilitate the desired client experience.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with Centers of Influence.
- Recognizing and fostering intergenerational wealth management amongst WA advisors and their client families.
- Initiating, developing and delivering advanced estate planning training for the Advanced Wealth Planning team.
- Managing, updating and enhancing team precedent file on wealth planning considerations, particularly as they relate to estate planning and trusts.
- Developing and launching training and education initiatives and wealth planning tools and resources for WA advisory teams.
- Preparing, refining and delivering presentations, technical written material, and thought leadership for both internal and external use in collaboration with the Vice President, Advanced Wealth Planning Strategy and Services.
- Proactively maintaining current and in-depth knowledge of all areas of the wealth planning process, including financial, education, insurance and risk management, retirement, tax, business and estate planning.
The ideal candidate will possess: - Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Member of the Ontario Bar, or ability to transfer from another Canadian jurisdiction.
- 7+ years' total estate planning experience with at least 3 years' planning experience in a law firm.
- 3+ years' financial services industry experience working in a high growth environment an asset.
- 3+ years' experience in a customer/client-service facing role.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience in the wealth management or other regulated industry is a strong asset.
- Strong insurance and/or tax background is an asset.
- TEP is strongly preferred.
- CFP, FEA and/or CLU is an asset.
- Experience using Conquest or NaviPlan is an asset.
- Proficiency with the MSOffice suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
- Exhibit a high level of professionalism that allows clients to feel comfortable discussing personal, confidential information.
- Strong presentational skills.
- Ability to keep up with Canada's overall economic and financial environment, current events and trends and changes to legislation, especially as it relates to estate transfer planning.
- An entrepreneurial spirit to participate in Wellington-Altus' continued growth, and a desire to continuously exceed client expectations.
- Ability to work closely and collaboratively with others, across multiple locations.
- Demonstrate a high level of accountability, reliability, adaptability, and innovation in accomplishing day-to-day work and long-term goals.
- Proficiency in executing the strategies and plans developed by the VP, with a focus on delivering tangible results.
- Focus on building strong relationships and fostering trust with Advanced Wealth Planning team, Advisors, clients and COIs.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to deal with numerous activities with varying degrees of priority and deadlines.

- Demonstrate exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey advice to diverse clients and collaborate with team members.
