Job Description The
Transplant Nurse Coordinator reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Stem Cell Transplant Intake Coordinator supports the pre-transplant phase of the stem cell transplant process. This position is responsible for coordinating the stem cell transplant admission for patients and caregivers, which includes facilitating insurance approval, educating patients and caregivers, coordinating stem cell harvests, conducting donor searches and assessments, coordinating pre-transplant work-up and evaluation tests and procedures and reviewing results, preparing for admission, and providing necessary communication and hand off to the inpatient stem cell transplant team.
- Unique job responsibilities include:
- Actively participates in weekly case conferences to facilitate the efficient transition of patients and families into the NM program
- Partners with Transplant Assistants to schedule all pre-harvest and pre-transplant labs, testing, and procedures for recipients and donors
- Coordinates patient/recipient and donor HLA typing, donor testing, and donor searches with the National Marrow Donor Program
- Reviews all testing results and communicates all abnormal results to the appropriate physician
- Provides education to patients and caregivers throughout the intake process
- Coordinates with outside hospitals and referring offices as needed
- Collaborates with Transplant Finance and Managed Care to ensure efficient insurance coordination and timely authorizations; serves as clinical liaisons to Managed Care regarding new contract language, contract renewals, and letters of agreement
- In collaboration with the Clinical Trials Office, assures eligibility for inclusion into treatment and/or research protocols, educates patients on applicable clinical trials, and obtains informed consents from patients when needed
- Abides by all program requirements to ensure compliance with the Foundation for the accreditation of Cellular Therapies (FACT) regulations
- Collaborates with Data Team to ensure all documentation requirements for research studies are met
Qualifications Required: - Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Illinois
- CPR-Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Minimum 2-3 years of recent & related clinical experience
Preferred: - Specialty certification in the clinical area of focus
- Previous transplant or organ specific experience (i.e. hepatology, nephrology, hematologic malignancies, hematopoietic stem cell transplant, cellular therapies)
