Job Description:
Plan, conduct, and provide technical Systems Engineering direction on projects or major phases of significant project assignments, coordinating the efforts of technical support staff in the performance of assigned projects. Application of advanced Systems Engineering techniques, including Model Based Systems Engineering methodologies, in the management of requirements, verification and risk for developing solid rocket propulsion systems. Develops solutions to complex systems engineering problems which require the use of ingenuity and creativity. Manages and coordinates communications with team and engineering leadership and customer personnel on technical matters often requiring coordinated activity across organizational lines. This position works under general supervision.
Essential Functions:
- Plan, coordinate, and implement systems engineering processes to ensure success of rocket system design development.
- Applies advanced Systems Engineering techniques, including Model Based Systems Engineering methodologies, in the management of requirements and risk for developing rocket propulsion systems.
- Develops system, subsystem, and component requirements for solid rocket propulsion systems product development.
- Responsible for derivation, allocation, and documentation of requirements in requirements database and specifications.
- Coordinates requirements and related specification change management with IPT members.
- Defines and coordinates requirements verification plans with integrated product team members, plans and manages compliance assessment and certification.
- Performs functional analysis and coordinates system trade studies.
- Coordinates selection of optimized concept baselines through benefit/cost trades in support of definition of system architecture and objectives.
- Coordinates project risk and opportunity assessment and management and prepares and reports results on mitigation plans.
- May direct, coordinate and review the work of a small staff of engineers and/or technicians; estimates personnel needs and schedules and assigns work to meet completion date.
- Represents the organization in meetings/teleconferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate work. Or, as individual researcher or staff specialist may be assisted on projects by other engineers or technicians.
- Travel: 10%
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior Systems Engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior Systems Engineering experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior Systems Engineering experience.
- Active DoD Security Clearance.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering or appropriate discipline/science (Mechanical/Aerospace) is preferred.
- Advanced degree preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in the development of contract proposals, basis of estimates, and other MBSE artifacts to support the capture of new business.
- Demonstrated experience in the developing MBSE Architectures for DoD and Commercial customers.
- Experience with DoD ground and air launched systems is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with the development and application of requirements verification architectures within a Cameo modeling environment.
- Knowledge of MBSE languages (UML, SysML, and UPDM), frameworks
- Experience with IBM Rational DOORS requirements management software is desired.
