Mission Health, based in Asheville, NC, is seeking a Clinical Nurse Coordinator OR to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team dedicated to delivering advanced surgical care in a compassionate, patient-centered environment. In this full-time role, you will coordinate the day-to-day clinical operations and patient flow of the operating room, working closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the broader perioperative team to ensure safe, timely, and efficient care for patients undergoing surgical procedures. As a Registered Nurse, you will serve as both a clinical leader and a direct care provider, actively engaging in preoperative assessments, intraoperative support, and postoperative transitions while modeling best practices in safety, communication, and teamwork.
The Clinical Nurse Coordinator OR at Mission Health functions as a central resource for staff in the operating room, assisting with patient assignments, case preparation, and real-time problem-solving to support optimal throughput and an excellent patient experience. You will oversee adherence to clinical protocols, regulatory standards, and infection prevention policies, helping to maintain a high-reliability environment where patient safety is paramount. This includes monitoring documentation in the electronic medical record, ensuring accurate and timely charting, and collaborating with physicians and anesthesia providers to clarify orders, anticipate needs, and respond quickly to changes in patient condition.
In alignment with Mission Health’s culture of collaboration, respect, and professional growth, you will mentor and support nurses, surgical technologists, and other team members by providing coaching, feedback, and clinical guidance. You will participate in onboarding and precepting of new staff, contribute to staff education on updated policies and evidence-based practices, and help foster a team culture that values open communication and mutual support. As a key contributor to quality improvement efforts, you will engage in data review, participate in root cause analyses or debriefings when needed, and help implement process changes designed to improve clinical outcomes, efficiency, and the overall patient and family experience.
This position requires strong critical thinking skills, the ability to remain calm and organized under pressure, and a commitment to patient advocacy at every stage of the surgical journey. You will work primarily on-site in the operating room environment, supporting a variety of surgical specialties and adapting to changing case volumes and acuity levels. Flexibility with scheduling, including participation in on-call, weekend, or evening rotations as needed, is essential to ensure consistent access to high-quality perioperative services. In return, Mission Health offers a supportive, team-oriented workplace with opportunities for advancement, ongoing professional development, and a comprehensive benefits package that may include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement savings options.
The ideal candidate is a licensed Registered Nurse with recent operating room or perioperative experience and demonstrated leadership or charge nurse capabilities. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred, along with current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications. Specialty certification such as Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) is highly regarded. This role is well-suited for a nurse who is passionate about perioperative care, eager to collaborate within an interdisciplinary team, and motivated to contribute to continuous improvement within a mission-driven healthcare system focused on the well-being of its community.
