Mission Health, based in Asheville, NC, is seeking a General Medicine Clinical Nurse Coordinator to join our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this full-time Registered Nurse role, you will play a pivotal part in coordinating and delivering high-quality, patient-centered care on our general medicine units. As a key clinical resource and liaison, you will support bedside nurses, collaborate closely with physicians and interdisciplinary team members, and help ensure safe, efficient care for a diverse adult patient population.
The General Medicine Clinical Nurse Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily flow of clinical activities on the unit, including patient assessments, care planning, and coordination of services across disciplines. You will assist with complex patient situations, provide real-time clinical guidance, and help staff prioritize care based on patient acuity and changing clinical needs. Using strong assessment and critical-thinking skills, you will monitor patient progress, help identify early signs of deterioration, and support timely interventions in collaboration with the healthcare team.
In this role, you will actively facilitate communication among nurses, physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, pharmacists, case managers, and ancillary staff to ensure that each patient receives comprehensive, well-coordinated care. You will support safe and efficient admissions, transfers, and discharges by helping to clarify orders, coordinate services, and ensure accurate and complete documentation in the electronic health record. You will also engage patients and families in the plan of care, providing education, answering questions, and promoting understanding of diagnoses, treatments, and discharge instructions.
The Clinical Nurse Coordinator serves as a mentor and clinical resource for nursing staff, supporting orientation, ongoing education, and professional development. You will help reinforce evidence-based practice, Mission Health policies, and regulatory standards at the bedside. By modeling effective communication, teamwork, and a calm, patient-focused approach, you will contribute to a positive work environment where nurses feel supported and empowered to provide excellent care.
Quality, safety, and continuous improvement are central to this position. The General Medicine Clinical Nurse Coordinator participates in unit-based quality initiatives, data review, and process improvement projects aimed at enhancing patient outcomes, patient experience, and operational efficiency. You will help identify opportunities for improvement in areas such as falls prevention, medication safety, infection prevention, pain management, and discharge readiness, and work with leadership and staff to implement and sustain best practices.
