Mission Health, a comprehensive healthcare provider based in Asheville, NC, is seeking a Clinical Nurse Coordinator – Pulmonary to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to patients with acute and chronic pulmonary conditions in collaboration with physicians, respiratory therapists, and the broader interdisciplinary team. The Clinical Nurse Coordinator serves as a clinical resource and point of contact for patients, families, and staff, ensuring that care is safe, evidence-based, and aligned with Mission Health’s standards of excellence.
The Clinical Nurse Coordinator – Pulmonary is responsible for overseeing day-to-day clinical operations within the pulmonary service area, including organizing patient flow, triaging clinical needs, and supporting staff in the implementation of physician orders, treatment plans, and respiratory care protocols. You will perform comprehensive assessments, administer medications and treatments, monitor patient responses, and provide ongoing education related to disease management for conditions such as COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, and post-surgical respiratory complications. This position plays a key role in transition-of-care planning, coordinating follow-up appointments, home oxygen or respiratory equipment, and community resources to reduce readmissions and support optimal outcomes.
Working within Mission Health’s collaborative culture, you will mentor and precept nursing and ancillary staff, promote adherence to clinical best practices and regulatory standards, and help implement quality improvement initiatives focused on pulmonary outcomes, patient safety, and patient experience. The Clinical Nurse Coordinator partners with leadership to collect and report quality metrics, identify opportunities for process improvement, and participate in staff education, policy development, and competency validation.
Candidates should bring strong clinical assessment skills, proficiency in interpreting respiratory diagnostics (such as spirometry and pulse oximetry), and comfort working with patients requiring oxygen therapy, noninvasive ventilation, and complex medication regimens. Effective communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills are essential, as this role involves coordinating care across inpatient, outpatient, and ancillary settings and advocating for patients and families.
