The RN Clinical Nurse Coordinator Oncology at LewisGale Medical Center serves as a key clinical leader within the oncology service line, ensuring safe, high-quality, and compassionate care for patients undergoing cancer treatment. Working in a full-service tertiary hospital that provides a broad range of specialty and surgical services, this nurse coordinator supports the daily operations of the oncology unit, including patient flow, staffing coordination, and adherence to evidence-based clinical protocols. In close collaboration with physicians, multidisciplinary team members, and support staff, the RN Clinical Nurse Coordinator provides direct patient care, oversees complex treatment plans such as chemotherapy and biotherapy administration, and ensures timely assessments, interventions, and patient education across the continuum of care.

Rooted in LewisGale Medical Center’s culture of compassionate care, teamwork, and professional development, this role is highly engaged in mentoring and guiding nursing staff, acting as a clinical resource for oncology-specific best practices, symptom management, and patient safety initiatives. The coordinator assists in precepting new nurses, supports ongoing competency development, and models effective communication and collaboration. The nurse participates in quality improvement efforts, monitors clinical outcomes, and helps implement process improvements related to infection prevention, medication safety, pain management, and patient experience.

The RN Clinical Nurse Coordinator Oncology also serves as a liaison between patients, families, and the care team, helping to coordinate diagnostic testing, treatment schedules, and transitions between inpatient, outpatient, and supportive services. The role involves supporting patient and family education about diagnoses, treatment options, potential side effects, and resources available for emotional, social, and financial support. Attention to detail in documentation, regulatory compliance, and accreditation standards is essential.
