Reston Hospital Center, part of the HCA Virginia Health System, is seeking a Clinical Nurse Coordinator for our Medical Unit within Healthcare & Medical Services. In this role, you will serve as a key clinical leader and bedside resource, coordinating and delivering high-quality, patient-centered nursing care for a diverse adult medical population. The Clinical Nurse Coordinator functions as a working nurse leader, balancing direct patient care with charge responsibilities, staff support, and clinical coordination to ensure safe, efficient operations on every shift.
You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for patients with complex medical conditions, collaborating closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, case management, pharmacy, and the broader interdisciplinary team. You will oversee patient flow on the unit, including admissions, discharges, and transfers, and help optimize staffing assignments to support appropriate nurse-to-patient ratios and continuity of care. As a role model for HCA’s culture of compassion, ethics, and collaboration, you will promote evidence-based practice, patient advocacy, and a strong focus on quality, safety, and the patient experience.
The Clinical Nurse Coordinator is expected to function as a resource and mentor for nursing staff, providing real-time clinical guidance, coaching, and support in managing changes in patient condition, escalation of care, and coordination with the ICU and other critical care services as needed. You will participate in clinical rounds, assist with complex procedures within your scope of practice, reinforce infection prevention and fall reduction practices, and help drive adherence to hospital policies, regulatory standards, and core measures.
You will play an active role in staff development by assisting with onboarding and precepting of new nurses, supporting ongoing competency validation, and encouraging professional growth and certification. The Clinical Nurse Coordinator will contribute to performance improvement initiatives by monitoring key quality indicators, reporting safety events, participating in root cause analyses when indicated, and helping implement unit-based action plans to improve outcomes. You will communicate effectively with patients and families, providing education about diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge plans, while demonstrating empathy and respect for diverse cultural and psychosocial needs.
Aligned with HCA’s commitment to continuous learning and professional excellence, this position offers opportunities to participate in shared governance, clinical councils, and evidence-based practice projects. The ideal candidate is an experienced Registered Nurse with strong clinical assessment skills, sound judgment in rapidly changing situations, and demonstrated leadership abilities at the bedside or in the charge role. You should be comfortable using electronic medical records and clinical technology to document care, track orders, and coordinate services across the continuum.
Reston Hospital Center offers competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, and a supportive work environment where teamwork, integrity, and patient-centric care guide everyday practice. As Clinical Nurse Coordinator on the Medical Unit, you will help shape the standard of care, support your colleagues, and ensure that every patient and family receives compassionate, safe, and high-quality healthcare.
