Registered Nurse Job Details
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: January 20, 2026 – End: April 21, 2026)
- Healthcare Setting: Third Floor PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)
- Nursing Shifts: Day shifts, 3x12-hour (06:00 – 18:30 or 09:00 – 21:30)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Patient Population: Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics
- No on-call or weekend shifts required
- Floating: May float to main Operating Room (OR) if needed
- Orientation: 40 hours
- Flu vaccination required (no exemptions)
PACU Nurse Qualifications
- Active DC Registered Nurse license (pending accepted with proof; must have in hand by start date)
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of recent PACU nursing experience, including blood product administration, infection control, specimen handling, and PACU procedures
- Must pass Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam (minimum 80% overall, 100% on lethal rhythms)
- Experience with Cerner electronic charting system preferred
- Trauma Level I hospital experience preferred
- Two supervisor references required
- Flu vaccination required (no exemptions)
PACU Nurse Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality post anesthesia care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
- Administer blood products and implement infection control protocols
- Handle and label specimens per facility guidelines
- Monitor and manage pain, recognize and treat dysrhythmias
- Care for patients undergoing procedures including vascular access, robotics, urology, oral maxillofacial, breast oncology/plastics, GYN, uroGYN, podiatry, burn, ophthalmology, and general surgeries
- Float to main OR as needed based on patient census
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams: radiology, pharmacy, social services, rapid response
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record
