Scrubs in OB procedures and assists in nursing care activities under the direction of a registered nurse. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities- 1. Performs the duties of a scrub person.
- 1.1 Performs technical skills proficiently during procedures while demonstrating knowledge of sterile technique by adhering to principles of asepsis 100% of the time.
- 2. Performs selected patient care activities in Labor & Delivery under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
- 2.1 Identifies changes in patients' condition and communicates significant observations to the RN as evidenced by report.
- 3. Demonstrates accountability and responsibility in daily performance of role.
- 3.1 Assumes responsibility for delegated activities 100% of the time as observed by supervisor.
QualificationsEDUCATION
Graduate of CAAHEP accredited surgical technology program or formal program as defined by the LCCST or who has completed the structured on the job training program at Bridgeport Hospital.

LICENSURE
Completion of licensed Certified Surgical Technology Program. As of January 1, 2012 all newly hired Surgical Technologist will be certified or obtain certification within 1 year of employment. Surgical Technician hired before January 1, 2012 will be grandfathered in.
SPECIAL SKILLS
Good interpersonal skills. Evidence of successful completion of MCH/OR training program (score of 85% or better on exam).
PHYSICAL DEMAND
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, or crouch; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk and hear. They may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
