PCU RN Job Details
- Location: Roanoke, VA 24014 (Virginia healthcare jobs)
- Unit: Stroke/Neuro Progressive Care Unit (Stepdown/Telemetry)
- Assignment Type: Travel nursing contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks (extensions up to 52 weeks available)
- Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour (18:45 - 07:15); option for 4x12s
- Hours per Week: 36
- Start Date: December 15, 2025
- Charting System: EPIC (EPIC experience required)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block
- Holiday Requirement: One holiday per 13-week contract
- Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1910-$1960
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or Compact State
- Minimum 1 year of recent PCU/Stepdown nursing experience
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (required for PCU nursing jobs)
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic charting
- Strong skills in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and emergency response
- Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
- Medication administration including cardiac drips (no titration)
- Respiratory support: nasal cannula, oxygen therapy, non-invasive airway management
- Isolation precautions and telemetry experience
- Ability to float to other PCU or medical-surgical units as needed
PCU RN Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to stroke, neuro, and general medicine patients in a telemetry PCU setting
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms; respond to rapid response/code situations
- Administer medications and manage IV drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, Ketamine, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine)
- Provide respiratory support and manage oxygen modalities (nasal cannula, CPAP, BiPAP)
- Perform blood product administration, phlebotomy, and central/peripheral line care
- Implement isolation precautions and maintain telemetry monitoring
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy
- Float to other PCU or med-surg units as needed
- Document patient care accurately using EPIC
