PCU RN Job Details

- Unit: Cardiac Telemetry / Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Contract Type: Travel nursing contract
- Start Date: December 8, 2025
- End Date: March 9, 2026
- Duration: 13 weeks (option to extend)
- Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour (18:45 - 07:15), 36 hours/week
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks (flexible)
- Unit Orientation: 24 hours
- Patient Ratios: 1:4 (surgical step down), 1:5-6 (lower acuity)
- Scrubs: Navy
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $1700-$1750/week
PCU Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent cardiac floor or progressive care nursing experience
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina or Compact State (required at start)
- BLS & ACLS certifications (required)
- NIHSS certification (required)
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Required skills: Cardiac Telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown, Sheath Removal, Dysrhythmia Interpretation & Management, Post MI, Pre/Post Cardiac Cath, Cardiac drips (titration and non-titration), Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac), External CPAP/BIPAP, Nasal Cannula, Non-invasive airway management
- Preferred: Arterial line management, Wound Care/Wound Vac, Charge nurse experience
PCU RN Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with cardiac and vascular diagnoses (atrial fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, post-cardiac surgery)
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, manage cardiac drips, and perform sheath removal
- Assist with procedures including CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO (Watchman procedure), VATS, and vascular surgeries
- Operate specialized equipment: Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, chest tubes, epicardial pacing wires
- Document patient care using EPIC; manage medications via Pyxis
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rapid response)
- Float to other hospital units as needed based on skill set and census
- Participate in disaster response teams (Storm/Hurricane Team) as required
