PCU Registered Nurse Job Details
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $1910 - $1960
- Assignment Length: 13-week locum tenens contract
- Location: Roanoke, VA 24014 (Virginia healthcare jobs)
- Unit Setting: Telemetry PCU with a focus on stroke and neuroscience patients
- Shift: 3x12-hour night shifts (18:45 – 07:15)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Start Date: October 20, 2025
- End Date: January 19, 2026
- Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Float: Occasional float to other PCU or Med-Surg units as needed
PCU RN Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Virginia or compact state)
- Minimum 1 year of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Stepdown nursing experience
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIHSS certification preferred
- EPIC charting experience required
- Strong skills in telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, rapid response/code team participation, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, and management of cardiac drips (no titration)
- COVID-19 and Flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
- Willingness to work at least 1 holiday during the assignment (2 during winter holidays)
PCU Nurse Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with complex medical, stroke, and neurological needs
- Monitor and interpret telemetry, manage dysrhythmias, and respond to rapid response/code situations
- Administer medications, including cardiac drips (no titration), and manage oxygen therapy (CPAP, BiPAP, nasal cannula)
- Provide care for patients with chest tubes, tracheostomies, and PICC lines
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and social services
- Document patient care using EPIC electronic medical record system
- Float to other PCU or Med-Surg units as needed based on acuity and staffing
- Participate in self-scheduling and ensure coverage for required weekend and holiday shifts
