Labor & Delivery RN Job Details
- Location: Midland, TX 79701 (West Texas healthcare jobs)
- Assignment Length: 16 weeks (minimum 13 weeks considered)
- Start Date: January 5, 2026
- Shift: 3x12-hour day shifts (07:00 - 19:00)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Unit: Labor & Delivery (10 beds, fluctuating census)
- Patient Population: Neonates, Infants, Adults
- Orientation: 36 hours
- Flu Vaccine: Required (medical/religious exemptions allowed)
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (pending license accepted with submission; must be active before start)
- Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery RN experience in a hospital setting
- Previous charge nurse experience required
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, NIHSS, AWHONN Advanced/Intermediate, FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring) preferred
- Experience with Cerner electronic charting system preferred
- Ability to float to Antepartum unit as needed
- Must pass on-site drug screening
Labor & Delivery Nurse Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care throughout the labor and delivery process, including triage, antepartum, labor, circulating for C-sections, and transition (no postpartum)
- Assist with high-risk deliveries, sterile speculum exams, and vaginal deliveries
- Administer medications and manage IVs, including Pitocin, magnesium sulfate, insulin drips, and antihypertensives
- Monitor and interpret fetal heart rate patterns using EFM and IUPC
- Support breastfeeding and lactation, and provide newborn care including APGAR scoring and radiant warmer use
- Respond to obstetric emergencies such as hemorrhage, shock, and abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure patient safety through ID/security banding and adherence to isolation precautions
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver high-quality patient care
