Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position requiring a compact RN license, strong Med/Surg background, and recent Epic experience.
Responsibilities
- Position is located in a surgical medical care center in a teaching hospital
- 41-bed Med/Surg unit with a patient ratio of 1:6-7 on nights
- Patient population includes post-surgical, trauma level II, dementia, AMS, detox, and various surgical cases
- Frequently provides care for whipples, vascular, pre/post heart caths, bariatric, ENT, podiatry, and wound care patients
- Floats required within skillset and to nearby campuses with two hours notice; mid-shift floats may occur but cross-campus are unlikely
- 12-hour night shifts from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
- Required to work three weekends in every six-week schedule and every other holiday
- Uses Epic charting system and requires recent experience
- Teamwork-focused unit with supportive charge nurses and experienced PCTs
- May be required to precept students and new-hires as part of teaching hospital responsibilities
- Navy blue scrubs required with no competing logos allowed
- Covid-19 vaccination not required at this time but subject to change
- Unit known for excellent culture, regularly celebrates birthdays and special occasions
Requirements
- Active IN or compact RN license required
- Current AHA BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum of two years recent strong Med/Surg experience with at least one prior travel assignment
- Trauma level II experience required
- Recent Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency in PIV insertion, chest tube/drain management, CBI, stable drips (heparin, lasix, protonix), epidural management, ostomy care, blood product administration, tele interpretation, and wound care
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills required
- Applicants must reside outside a 40-mile radius from the facility
