Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position with a GA or compact license and strong medical-surgical and telemetry skills.
Responsibilities
- Position is based in a large teaching hospital with Level 1 Trauma designation
- Work on inpatient med/surg telemetry units with 20-36 beds per unit
- Caring for adult patients with a variety of medical-surgical and telemetry needs
- Patient ratios typically 1:4-6 for RNs
- All Med/Surg/Tele units use EPIC EMR and Alaris IV pumps
- Night shifts: 12 hours (7p-7a), 36 hours per week
- Required to float to all med/surg and telemetry units as part of float pool
- No on-call requirements
- Required to work either 11/27 or 11/28, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1 for holidays
- Provide care for adult med/surg and telemetry patients, including titration of specified drips to heart rate
- RN is supported by CNAs, charge nurses, resource nurses, and unit secretary
- Phlebotomy primarily performed by RNs when drawing from central lines
- Team-oriented, fast-paced work environment
- Centralized telemetry unit provides monitoring support
- Discharge and resource nurses available, as well as 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
- Departmental and facility orientation provided, including educational modules
- Navy scrubs are required for RNs
Requirements
- Active GA or compact RN license
- Minimum 2 years of med/surg telemetry RN experience
- Current BLS required
- EKG competency exam required during onboarding
- Experience with EPIC EMR preferred
- Competency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and glucometers
- Experience managing insulin and heparin drips
- Certification in med/surg is a plus
- First-time travelers will be considered
