Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a busy off-campus ED setting, requiring a WA or compact RN license and strong critical care skills.
Responsibilities
- Work in a high-acuity off-campus Emergency Department with 10 ED beds and up to 10 hall spaces
- Patient population includes neonates through geriatrics, with 25% pediatric cases and a mix of trauma, cardiac, neuro, GI, psych, and respiratory cases
- Patient ratios are typically 1:4, with fast track assignments up to 1:6
- Float among multiple off-campus ED sites as needed; primary assignment may change based on operational needs
- RN is responsible for all respiratory care including ventilators and BiPAP due to no RT onsite
- Charting via Epic with Alaris and Pyxis systems
- Night shifts are 12 hours, with rotating weekends and start times ranging from 1500 to 1900
- Orientation includes hospital onboarding, unit educator training, respiratory care class, and unit shadowing
- Will provide care for intubated patients and manage all ventilator functions as there are no RTs onsite
- Charge duties may be assigned; training provided if needed
- Support staff includes LPNs (can take low acuity assignments), EST/phlebotomy (RN/LPNs primarily draw labs), and supervision via pharmacy videoconference
- First-time travelers are encouraged to apply
- Scrub color is flexible; any color accepted
- N95s, PAPRs, and goggles provided for PPE
- Parking is free at all locations
- Weekend and holiday scheduling is negotiable; block scheduling is not guaranteed
- Up to 5 days of time off can be approved; requests for more than 5 days require manager approval
Requirements
- Active WA or compact RN license required
- BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department experience required; 5 years experience required for CAP positions
- Proficiency in managing ventilators, BiPAP, medication preparation, IV insertion, chest tubes, and central lines
- Must pass traveler telemetry competency prior to start
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Ability to provide care independently for all age groups and trauma types
