Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position in an acute care setting requiring an active AZ or compact RN license and proficiency in telemetry.
Responsibilities
- Work in a 30-bed Med/Surg Telemetry/PCU unit within an acute care hospital
- Patient ratios are typically 1:5-6, with three 10-bed units
- Treats surgical and medical patients including orthopedic, GI, infectious disease, behavioral health, respiratory, and cardiac cases
- Care for patients with chest pain, COPD, pneumonia, MRSA, C-diff, COVID, drug or alcohol withdrawal, and post-op needs
- 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM–7:30 AM) with every other weekend required (Friday and Saturday for nights)
- Uses Cerner EMR; experience is preferred
- Expected to float to the Multi Care Unit, Pediatric unit (for adult MST), and West Campus Med/Surg Tele as needed
- Required to read and interpret telemetry strips; remote monitor techs available
- No requirement for titrating drips; may care for stable CPAP or BiPAP patients
- Holiday rotation applies
- Responsibilities include providing primary care to MST/PCU patients and possibly precepting nursing students
- Nurse aids support patient care; if none available, RN care ratio is 3 patients
- All RNs must attend both hospital and unit-specific orientation based on experience level
- Required to pass sterile technique testing for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on first day of orientation
- Dress code allows any scrub color except camouflage
- Travelers may be included in standby rotation for low census situations
- Returning travelers who failed required testing twice will be ineligible for 6 months
- RTO (requested time off) must comply with hospital holiday and scheduling policies
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at the time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years RN experience, with at least 1 year in Med/Surg; telemetry experience preferred
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Must pass dysrhythmia exam (two attempts maximum) prior to contract
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry
- Must be willing to care for both Med/Surg and PCU patients
- Submission must include copy of valid driver's license
- Candidate must provide two professional references: one supervisor from past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from past 3 years
- Permanent residence must be at least 50 miles from the facility
- May not have worked for any CommonSpirit facility (CHI or Dignity) as direct employee within the past year
