CVICU RN Job Details
- Location: New Haven, Connecticut 06510
- Healthcare Setting: Cardiac Vascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), Level I Trauma Center
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 12/12/2025 – End: 3/13/2026)
- Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), 3 shifts per week
- Weekly Hours: 36
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $1880 - $2020
- Patient Ratio: 1:2 (Days/Nights/Weekends)
- Charting System: Epic
- Parking: On-site, $125/month
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Connecticut or compact state; CT license must be in process before start date)
- Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU or critical care nursing experience (1.5 years accepted if from a Level I trauma center or with prior travel nurse experience)
- Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Proficiency with pulmonary artery catheters (Swan Ganz)
- Strong skills in arterial line management, ventilator management, cardiac rhythm recognition, titrating cardiac/vasoactive drips, and post-cardiac surgery care
- Ability to float to ICU and PCU as needed
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
- One professional reference required
CVICU RN Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with complex cardiac and vascular conditions, including STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, advanced heart failure, and post-cardiac surgery
- Monitor and manage patients with pulmonary artery catheters and advanced cardiac devices
- Administer emergency medications, blood products, and continuous IV sedation as needed
- Interpret arterial blood gases, manage ventilators, and respond to rapid patient turnover and admissions
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
- Float to other critical care units (ICU, PCU) as required
- Participate in ongoing education and complete required modules prior to assignment start
