Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring at least 18 months of MedSurg or ICU experience and AL or compact RN licensure.
Responsibilities
- Work in a hospital setting rotating through various Med/Surg and specialty units including trauma surgical, neuroscience, oncology, orthopedics, urology, and clinical decision units
- Patient assignments include general surgery, vascular, neuro, ortho, oncology, palliative care, and general MedSurg cases
- Typical RN to patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on unit and patient population
- Telemetry monitored by techs but RNs must interpret and confirm telemetry strip readings every four hours
- Uses Cerner EMR (preferred), Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
- Home unit assigned on the first orientation day, with floating to like units as needed
- Scheduled for 12-hour night shifts, 7:00pm start, on a four-week rotation including every other weekend or four weekend days per month
- No on-call requirement
- First-time travelers are accepted for this assignment
- Former staff must wait 6 months from their last shift before being considered for a travel role
- Orientation includes 24 hours classroom and 24 hours on the assigned unit for new or returning travelers after more than 1 year away
- Support staff includes CNAs, phlebotomists, IV/VAT team, charge nurses, hospitalists, HUC/receptionists, and telemetry monitoring techs
- Holiday coverage is required for at least one major and one minor holiday during the contract, as per facility policy
- RTO limited and not permitted on facility blackout dates as specified
- Scrub color is not restricted; any color is permitted
- Candidates must live at least 60 miles from the facility
Requirements
- Active AL or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of recent MedSurg and/or ICU experience
- If experience is strictly ICU, Cerner experience is required
- Prior experience with EMR systems such as Cerner or Epic required
- Telemetry experience required; must be able to interpret and document telemetry readings
- Experience with wound care, chest tubes, trach care, IV skills, medication administration, and care of specialized surgical and neuro patients
