Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift ICU position requiring an AZ or compact RN license and strong EKG and critical care skills.
Responsibilities
- Work in an acute care ICU with CVICU, Medical-Surgical ICU, COVID ICU, and PCU beds under a critical care service line
- ICU nurse to patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:2 based on acuity
- Care for a diverse adult population including post-surgical, cardiac critical care, COVID, neuro, DKA, sepsis, and advanced cardiac procedures
- Must titrate a variety of critical care drips including pressors, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Utilizes Cerner EMR system
- Nurses are expected to read their own tele strips on Nihon Kohden monitors
- Night shifts (12 hours), with four weekend shifts per pay period and first-to-float requirement
- Floats to PCU, MST, and other critical care areas as needed, per rotation
- May be placed on call if low census, up to one time in six weeks
- Responsible for all aspects of critical care nursing including manual proning, titration of multiple drips, interpreting ABGs, and managing advanced cardiac and neuro cases
- Intensivist support in-house 24/7 with nurse practitioner supplementation
- No nurse aids or tele/monitor techs; RNs are responsible for monitoring and interpreting telemetry
- RT covers all areas though may not be present 24/7 in ICU
- Professional scrubs required; navy scrubs will be mandated starting in October
- Orientation includes 8 hours of general hospital orientation, one 12-hour precepted shift, and an additional buddy shift if needed
- Winter holiday coverage required, with assignment of one major holiday and one holiday eve
- First schedule may be adjusted to fill coverage gaps, with some flexibility through staff trades
- Failure to pass required testing may result in ineligibility for six months at CommonSpirit facilities in Arizona and Sacramento
Requirements
- Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration (pending licenses not accepted)
- Minimum two years recent ICU experience required
- Current certifications in BLS and ACLS required
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with 80% or higher within two attempts prior to contract signing
- Strong EKG interpretation skills necessary
- Demonstrated experience in ventilator weaning and troubleshooting required
- Experience with IABP and Prismaflex CRRT strongly preferred
- Ability to check off advanced cardiac and critical care skills such as EVD, chest tubes, art line, Swan-Ganz, Impella, TAVR, VAD, and CRRT preferred
- Must submit a copy of a valid driver’s license for consideration
- Must provide two professional references (one supervisor within the past 12 months, one peer or supervisor within the last 3 years with dates of employment and rehire eligibility)
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates may not have been employed by CommonSpirit, Dignity, or affiliated facilities in the past year
