Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a busy Emergency Department, requiring at least one year of adult ER experience and conscious sedation skills.
Responsibilities
- Position is in a hospital Emergency Department with 30 beds, 14 Fast Track beds, and additional hallway beds as needed
- Treats all age groups and a variety of medical complaints, excluding trauma
- Average patient census is 120-130 per day with a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4
- Works alongside a team that includes MDs available 24/7, ACPs, PCTs, Charge RNs, RRTs, phlebotomists, ED techs, and secretaries
- Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts, every other weekend and major holiday coverage required
- Navy blue, white, or a combination of those colors are required for scrubs
- Position does not accept local candidates within a 50-mile radius
- Responsibilities include emergency assessment, medication administration, care coordination, and patient safety advocacy
- Role involves working with interprofessional teams and supporting patients across the lifespan with a range of emergent conditions
- Must collaborate with external partners such as EMS, law enforcement, and protective agencies
- Orientation includes EKG exam with study materials provided
- Holiday and every other weekend coverage is required
- Orientation includes procedures for quality and safety
Requirements
- Active RN license in VA or compact state required
- Minimum of one year of recent adult ER experience required
- Experience with conscious sedation is required
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, CPI/de-escalation training
- Must pass EKG exam at orientation with two attempts allowed
- Not accepting travel pairs or teams
