Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Renal Stepdown Unit position on night shift, requiring cardiac telemetry experience and a compact or IN RN license.
Responsibilities
- Work in the Cardiac Renal Stepdown Unit of a hospital
- 32-bed unit with high-acuity cardiac telemetry and med/surg patients, including Afib with RVR, CHF, COPD, sepsis, and post ablations
- Night shift position (12-hour shifts, 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM)
- Floating required within skillset, including to additional campuses up to 11 miles away with two hours' notice for cross-campus float
- May float mid-shift within the same campus and rarely cross-campus mid-shift
- Patient ratios: 1:4-5 on days, 1:5-7 on nights
- Epic EMR used; recent Epic experience required
- Responsibilities include managing high-acuity cardiac telemetry and stepdown patients, interpreting EKGs, and titrating cardiac drips
- Three weekend shifts required per six-week schedule and every other holiday coverage
- First to float among staff based on skillset
- May require precepting students and new hires as this is a teaching hospital
- No competing health system or agency logos allowed on scrubs
- Strong unit culture with experienced leadership and staff
- A maximum of three call-ins may result in termination
- COVID-19 vaccination not required at this time, but subject to change
- No local candidates accepted; candidates must live outside a 40-mile radius
Requirements
- Active IN or compact RN license
- Current AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Minimum 2 years recent cardiac/telemetry RN experience
- At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment
- Trauma level II experience required
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and tele/12-lead EKG interpretation skills
- Ability to initiate and titrate drips such as antiarrhythmics and heparin
- Experience with PIV insertion, chest tube management, nephrostomy tubes, and managing cardiac drips
- Recent hands-on Epic charting experience required and must pass Epic checkoff class
- Ability to pass telemetry tests prior to hire
