Job Description
American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN with at least 2 years of recent experience and Epic proficiency for a night shift contract in North Carolina.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Medical Surgical unit within a hospital setting
- Patient population includes orthopedic trauma, traumatic brain injury, spine injuries, neurological trauma, subdural hematoma, and pain management
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6-7
- Shift is 12-hour nights (18:45 – 07:15), with 36 or 48 hours per week options accepted
- Must float to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding, as required
- Weekend coverage required every other weekend
- Storm Team and Hurricane Team duties required during catastrophic events or disasters
- Unit uses Pyxis, Epic EMR, and SBAR communication
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Maximum of 7 days RTO allowed (none during first week or on holidays), and all RTO must be approved shortly after booking
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the contract
- Requires completion of 12-hour unit orientation and 16-hour organizational education
- Travel pairs permitted if assigned to different units
- Fatigue policy restricts working more than 5 consecutive days or 60 hours per week
- Candidates may be consolidated to a centralized office or reassigned within the hospital or nearby affiliates as needed
- Navy scrubs are required
- Locals accepted at a different pay rate based on permanent address
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required in hand at time of start (pending for submission allowed)
- Minimum 2 years of relevant Med/Surg experience in the past 5 years
- BLS certification required
- Epic EMR documentation experience required
- Must be comfortable with heparin drips, PCA, blood product administration, care of central and peripheral lines, colostomy, feeding tube, PICC line management, wound care, management of dysrhythmias, oxygen protocol, non-invasive airway management, isolation/PPE, traumatic brain injury, ortho trauma, surgical drains, chest tubes, tracheostomy management, oral suctioning, and IV starts
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
